Q: |
On what days is the COMMERCIAL halibut fishery open? |
|
In 2009 the commercial directed halibut fishery was open on June 24 and July 8. The catch limit was taken during these days, so after July 8 the directed fishery was closed for the remainder of 2009. Open dates scheduled preseason had been June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5, August 19, September 2, September 16 and September 30 (every other Wednesday). From the Washington-Oregon-California (Area 2A) total allowable catch, the non-Indian commercial fishery is allocated 31.7% of the non-Indian share. The commercial fishery consists of a directed halibut fishery and an incidental catch fishery during the
salmon troll fishery. |

Q: |
Can we plan on a two-fish bag limit after Labor Day? |
|
Even if much of the quota remains after Labor Day, a two-fish bag limit is not guaranteed. The Catch Sharing Plan states: "After the Labor Day weekend, the IPHC, NMFS, and ODFW will consult to determine whether increasing the Oregon central coast bag limit to two fish is warranted ..." |
